Philosophy Adventure Launch Party, Review, and Giveaway!

As a part of our high school journey, the study of philosophy is becoming crucial – especially when that study integrates apologetics.  Teens are bombarded from every side with world views that are anything but Christian.  Teaching them to learn how to communicate their faith articulately and stand strong amidst the falsehoods being presented to them is the foremost job of every Christian parent.

      Philosophy Adventure, by Stacy Farrell is a multi-disciplinary approach to Philosophy, which instructs Christian students in writing, thinking, and speaking clearly and critically. Published by Homeschool Adventure, this curriculum, intended for students in grades 6-12, is inexpensive, available in several different formats, and (most importantly) easy to use.  The student text organize so that it is simple for parents to plan and simple for the student to use. Each lesson contains several common components:  The Philosopher’s Story; Write, Think, and Speak articles and activities; Geographical Information (with gorgeous, colorful maps); the School of Thought; and Contrast (where the actual ideas of each philosopher are examined and compared with a Biblical worldview).  Reading, thinking, and writing exercises are given all along the way.  A suggested timeline for weekly assignment, utilizing the curriculum for either 4 or 5 days a week, is given in the introductory material.  The corresponding teacher’s resources contains answer keys for the student resource workbook, quizzes and keys, and additional extension assignment suggestions. The student resources include vocabulary pages, memory cards, philosopher notebook pages, ‘write, speak, and think’ journal pages, mapping assignments, timelines and images, quizzes and tests, checklists, and creative free writing assignments.  Philosophy Adventure retails for $89.99 for a physical set (spiral bound reader, Student book, and Teacher’s Resources CD), or $39.99 for a digital set. It is available through the Homeschool Adventure website. 

     We have been working through the first lesson and so far this curriculum is a hit with my kids.  We have been using an advance copy of the materials, and look forward to using this over the summer and writing a full review of our experience once we are done.
